When asked, Derik will not hesitate to tell you that the Nashville-based group The Floating Men are the best rock group EVER, and so he has been cyber-proselytizing the internet preview of their new project this week. I have recruited myself to the cause — so here’s the scoop. The slow preview began Monday, and they are releasing one or two songs per evening (between 9 p.m. & midnight CST) on MySpace and Facebook. So far, two songs are up. This is part of an opera that the band’s writer, Jeff Holmes, has been working on for a while. You can also view quite a bit of their work on YouTube.
I have only listend to a small sample of their work, but what I have heard is quite impressive. In particular, I’m quite fond of yesterday’s song (the second one). Anytime a song begins with some piano music, I’m probably going to like it, but the whole song is just fantastic — musically and lyrically. I’m impressed. Good stuff.
