I’ve moved a lot, yes, but…

I swear, I’ve NEVER had a moving experience like this one.

Yes, folks, I’m back online… and since I blogged last, so much has happened that I don’t even really know where to begin.

I could pepper you all with a lengthy tale of our moving adventure, but you probably don’t care to know ALL the details (and if you do, stick around long enough and you’ll hear them, promise). So, here are the highlights:

  • We had so much stuff in boxes, it didn’t all fit on the moving truck (only a few things got left behind). And, it took three guys working steadily a full five hours to move everything out of the old house and into the new one.
  • The walls at the new house are all crying out for a good coat of paint, so — thinking it would be the hardest to paint later — we decided to paint the bedroom we’ll be using as an office. Our second brilliant idea was to use the office to add some color to the house … namely, a nice, rich red color. Anyone who’s ever painted anything red can guess the next part of the story; namely, it took FOREVER to paint this room. We did tinted primer and another three or four coats of paint. What was supposed to be a quickie half-day project ended up stretching over most of the weekend and preventing either of us from getting much else done. The upshot? It looks FANTASTIC.
  • Because we took all weekend to get the room painted, I only set up my computer last night (Sunday) around 10:30 or 11:00ish. Which means I went three full days without checking my e-mail… more than that, actually, because I turned off my computer Thursday afternoon. And yes, I was starting to get the shakes.
  • I was so ill-prepared for Daniel’s birthday yesterday that I had to sneak out of bed early and go buy his present. I was literally at the door of Lowe’s waiting with a half-dozen other diehards when they opened on Sunday. When I got back home, after grabbing stuff from the old house, going to Lowe’s, getting a card and wrapping supplies at Target, and picking up breakfast, he was still sound asleep.
  • Bringing me to my next topic… we got our new king-sized bed delivered on Friday and it is FABULOUS. The two inches of memory foam on top of the mattress (it’s a Simmons) cuddle around you and make it so comfortable on the bed. I’ll be able to gauge the mattress better when I have no reason to be sore independent of the bed, but my initial reaction is overwhelming joy.
  • The pool is too cold for swimming, as we feared, but it is still wonderful. We’ve already spent more time in our backyard here than we did all of the last year combined (if you subtract lawn care time) at the old house.
  • And speaking of doing things more, we set up my beloved dining table in a manner that it’s easily accessible and in view of the TV (which we haven’t hooked up at all yet), and have already eaten at the table twice — two times more than we ever had before.

That’s about all I can think of right now, but I’m sure I’ve forgotten much… so, stay tuned. 🙂
