Santos!

I love the West Wing, and this has been a great week for the show.

Season 4 came out on DVD Tuesday, and I can’t wait to start working my way through the first season I really watched on TV with any kind of regularity — to see what I missed and to remind myself what I saw but have since forgotten.

Last night was the season finale. I have to say, I have not enjoyed this season nearly as much as I have the others … first, how dare they put this bizarre wedge between Josh and Donna!! I must have missed the episode where whatever happened between them happened, and I only hope that with the primaries over Josh will have the good sense to recruit Donna to his candidate’s campaign. (And, from the perspective of good TV, I cannot imagine that NOT happening.)

I’m really glad they decided to make Matt Santos the Democratic candidate for next season’s presidential election. Jimmy Smits and Alan Alda bothered me when they were initially introduced mid-season, but they’ve both grown on me — a lot.

The producers of the West Wing did what I wasn’t entirely confident they could do — change the guard without losing my interest. It hasn’t been the best season, as I said, but they ended on a very strong note last night and I’m once again hooked. Bravo.
