when politics is worthless

Here’s a story from my hometown newspaper that’s left me baffled. I mean, seriously, is this the only thing they can find to do??

Alcohol ordinance on BCQC agenda

An ordinance to prohibit persons younger than 21 from attempting to purchase or obtaining alcoholic beverages from retail dealers or other public or private clubs in Baxter County looks like the biggest item on Tuesday night’s Baxter County Quorum Court agenda.

The Quorum Court will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the second-floor courtroom of the Baxter County Courthouse.

If the ordinance passes, the Sheriff’s Department or the owner of the establishment may detain the violator for a reasonable length of time. Such detention shall not render the detainer criminally or civilly liable for false arrest, false imprisonment or unlawful detention.

If found guilty, the offenders could face a maximum $500 fine for either misrepresenting their age for the purpose of obtaining liquor, beer or other alcoholic beverages, or purchasing or attempting to purchase or obtain liquor, beer or alcoholic beverages.
