a belated, public “thank you”

I know many were there in spirit, but I wanted to say a very public “thank you” to my friend Patrick, who was the lone soul (amongst those I invited, I mean) who came to BD’s last Tuesday to support the TWU Habitat for Humanity girls in their final fundraiser of the year. Thanks to others like Patrick, in two hours the girls raised $124, which will be used to help build a house for a deserving family in Denton County. Another $100 was donated by those who couldn’t come but wanted to support the organization’s work.

In the spring semester alone, a core group of about 10 extremely dedicated and hardworking TWU habitaters have raised more than $650. For their efforts, I have reason to believe that, at this Thursday’s TWU student organization recognition/awards banquet, the Habitat for Humanity gang will be honored as the TWU student organization of the year. (An honor they won last year, incidentally .)

They plan to return to BD’s in the fall for a few days of guest grilling, so the rest of you aren’t off the hook! 🙂

(I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention that, while he couldn’t attend the actual “guest grilling” event because he was in class, Daniel *did* come to BD’s after the grilling had ended to eat dinner with the Habitat students and me.)
