a pain unlike any other

We are back from Vegas, and I’m happy to report that the trip itself was a delight. Daniel and I got to spend mucho quality time with my parents, as well as with each other (a definite plus), and saw Robert and Joyce when they could sneak away from her family, which had sponsored their trip out and thus merited the lion’s share of their attention. We all had a great time and did some fun stuff, including the Eiffel Tower “experience” (for which we had some great coupons) at nighttime — gorgeous!

The unfortunate part of the trip came right around the time we flew back. Whilst on the plane, I was inexplicably hit with the nastiest stomach bug I’ve ever experienced. Quite simply, I thought I was going to die. It was the worst pain I’ve ever endured. The worst of it didn’t pass until about 6 a.m. Sunday, meaning I was in agony for over 12 hours and generally unable to relax or sleep that whole time. The plane ride itself was sheer misery. It’s now been about 2.5 days, and I’m still feeling like crap. I went to the doctor yesterday to confirm that I am not, in fact, dying, and she wrote it all off as a mysterious stomach bug that will work itself out in a few days. I’ve only left the house three times since we got back, once to go to the doctor and twice to get more easy-on-the-stomach food from the grocery store. Not exactly my idea of a swingin’ good time. Ugh.

Nevertheless. I remain optimistic that this will turn out to be a 72-hour bug, like she said most of them are, and that I will be back with the living sometime tomorrow. I now have an awful lot of catching up to do.

Daniel, meanwhile, has some sort of cold/sore throat number going on, which I’m sure I’ll catch straightaway after 86’ing the stomach bug, so he’s been bedridden as well. Except, of course, to pick up Halo 3 last night. 😉
