“very decent effort”

Yesterday, I went up to campus to drop off my take-home final “exam” for my Saturday class, and to pick up the paper I was slaving over a couple of weeks back. My professor flipped through his stack of papers, found mine, and leafed through the pages before handing it to me with these words:

“This was a very decent effort, Liz.”

Very. Decent. Effort.

What the hell does THAT mean?!?!

Well, actually, I can tell you: It means that he wrote compliments throughout the paper, said at the end that it was “very well written” (I should hope so!! geez!), and gave me an A- because, according to him, he would have liked to see more sources.

Ah, well. I can live with that. 🙂
