wow.

So, this is really a practicum liz thing to blog about, but golly gosh darnit, you get it here instead.

A woman who had called during my first hour (when I was actually, sniff, AT the reference desk) with a panicked need for information came in shortly after I moved back to a cube, and I’ve spent a few minutes in the last two hours helping her out a bit. Nothing gargantuan, nothing Earth shattering, just that help-people/teach-’em-stuff thing I so enjoy doing.

Anyway, she just left with, “like, a *ream* of stuff” and said to me as she walked away, “You’re the best librarian I’ve ever met in my life — seriously — you’ve saved my life.”

I blushed. Then grinned.

If ever I start to doubt I’m moving in the right direction with my life, something like this happens to realign my focus and remind me why my future as a professor is so clearly the right choice for me. It’s who I am. Without trying, without struggling. And that knowledge is SO freaking cool to have.
