I’m WAY too modest to ever call myself even a regular genius, much less a “freakin’ genius,” but my good friends from UT-Dallas have been having a bit of a Liz lovefest on facebook today, and that’s their conclusion. Since I think they’re all pretty freakin’ awesome, too, I’ll trust their studied judgments.
Soooo… to summarize, my presentation today was *awesome*. I mean, again, I’m way too modest to sing my praises often, but I did a bang-up job talking about my project and why people should care. There were intelligent and well-studied people in the room who were impressed with my arguments and who gave some really helpful suggestions on where I might go next. The panel chair/discussant, in particular, seemed very enthusiastic about my research and encouraged me to keep at it. All of this was just the sort of intellectual encouragement and affirmation that I came to Vancouver looking for. The fact that it happened within the first two hours of the conference is even better. I’ve been riding a post-presentational high ever since.
I went out and wandered a bit this afternoon, seeing nothing particular but walking around the vicinity of my hotel for a couple of hours and popping into little shops when the fancy struck. I found the perfect postcard to send my dad (I have something of a reputation to uphold, so that was a top priority). Here’s a link to my Vancouver trip photo album, where I’ve uploaded just a few pictures thus far but hope to add more when my schedule and the weather allow me to take some prettier photos. Maybe even some with me in them!
