I’m apparently still fit for GW, et. al.

Good news! I was told last week sometime that my ACT scores were rockin’ good, so I’m all confirmed as a new test-prep tutor candidate. I start training this weekend, and so life is good.

In less thrilling news, I came down with a nasty sinus infection last week that, despite a full round of drugs, is still clinging on for dear life. I just can’t seem to shake the cough or the drainage. At least my head doesn’t feel like it’s going to explode anymore. I am fighting back as best I can, but I’m choosing to blame the excessively dry air (I could never live in the desert) along with the ongoing stress of the mid-semester crunch.

I still can’t believe we leave for Europe three weeks from Saturday. Seriously?!?!?! It’s scary and fantastic all at once.

My mom, you may know, is finishing up her second term as alderwoman on the city council in my hometown. She has been considering running for a third term, balancing the fact that she’s kinda sick of the politics (and, of course, sick of dealing with the “damned media”). She’s particularly tired of dealing with a certain city official, but she’s balancing that with the fact that she genuinely likes the actual WORK, and is doing a bang-up good job for the community where she and my dad have spent the majority of their lives. She feels conflicted because, if she weren’t on Council, she could conceivably spend more time in Hawaii — without worrying about missing meetings and the like. Anyway, she’s been thinking about it off and on since the first of the year, and especially since tax season ended…

AND THEN. The “certain city official,” whom we’ll call “Pat” for its androgynous quality, announced last week plans to step down from Pat’s existing office and run for Pat’s “old seat” on Council, seat 1 in my mom’s ward, and more importantly, MY MOM’S SEAT. My mother was a big supporter in Pat’s big, contested election four years ago, but after a single disagreement a year or so ago, has been challenged at every turn by Pat. It’s really sorta pathetic. Anyway, Pat didn’t even have the decency to call my mom to alert her about the potential challenge in November’s election. And to top it all off, Pat’s former Council seat was actually the seat 2 in my mom’s ward — NOT MY MOM’S SEAT. Pat’s just running for my mom’s seat because Pat’s being a great big arsehole, if you ask me.

My mom hasn’t yet decided what she’s going to do, and she doesn’t have to file until the end of July, I think, if she wants to run for re-election. I’m guessing she probably won’t run, but who knows? When my mom gets ticked off (or crossed), you just never know what could happen.
