spanker evangelism

Everyone who reads this blog with any regularity knows about my borderline obsession with the Asylum Street Spankers … and today, I had a chance to introduce someone new (my coworker Kathy) to the Spankers. I’d invited her (and her husband) to join us for the Spankers performance in Denton on Feb. 12, and at lunch today we were talking about it a bit, me trying to do that thing where I describe what their music is like, exactly. (An impossibility, really.) When we got back, I gave her a sampler CD with my favorites, including “Whatever,” “Got My Mojo Workin’,” and “The Scrotum Song.”

Anyway. At lunch we also did some blog-address-swapping, and so I was MOST amused to read her post written after she got home tonight.

And I have to say, I like her nickname for me a lot better than the one my dad came up with when I was younger. Though, she’s right, there’s a pretty good chance her choice of nicknames will inspire far more raised eyebrows than chuckles in appreciation.

  1. If I'm not mistaken, while I was at UT-Austin I sang with a guy who was in the Asylum Street Spankers. Not sure if he's still in the group or not. He wasa nice guy though.
