speed teaching.

So this is what happened. (Just now, I mean.)

I teach classes at TWU as part of my job supporting the Web site and the people who work on it. Each month, I request time in the specific computer classroom I prefer, scheduling gives me anywhere from six to ten 90-minute slots, and then I pick what topics to teach that month.

March’s schedule took some time to assemble, and I didn’t get the room availability until late Friday. Monday I spent the day zooming around our Dallas campuses, but I had a chance to send out the March training schedule to the Web people on campus midday. Unfortunately, today’s class fell just two days later … and, even worse, the person who coordinates the RSVPs for classes and lets me know how many people are signed up was out sick yesterday and wasn’t scheduled to come in until 11 a.m. today, meaning I came to my 11:00 class this morning with no clue as to how many people had indicated their intent to attend.

I prepared for seven students and hoped I’d get none or at least a critical mass of three or four … but when I arrived (some 15 minutes ago), there was but one lone, brave soul in the classroom. I hated to send her away empty-handed, so I literally just spent five minutes speed-teaching her how to create better and more usable/readable Web content. Five minutes.

I know that’s not funny to you (otherwise, you’d be laughing), but me? I think it’s hilarious. {cackle}
