weekend recap

Here lately, my weekend blogging has been lamentable, if not all but nonexistent. This weekend has proven no exception. Most of that’s just been the fact that I haven’t been online … hard to imagine, I know, but true all the same. It all started with the Plano Rep’s production of “The Drawer Boy” on Friday night … the YAP book club Saturday (and an interesting potential sighting of The Carp while there) … fun with Browns fans Saturday afternoon/evening in town for the game Sunday … and a host of other fun things sprinkled in between. I did manage to turn in homework essentially on time Saturday night, and my assignment due tomorrow is all but ready to go as well.

So, maybe not interesting to read about … but fun. 🙂

I have to say, the book club pick this month (which I’d been hoping to read and which was also suggested by someone else — who, incidentally, didn’t show up. It happened AGAIN!! {sigh}) was outstanding. We read The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. While the story itself wasn’t anything remarkable, and the writing was a lot more narrative than dialogue, I was blown away by the QUALITY of the writing. Sebold weaves together her story with grace and beauty, so much so that you never really notice there’s not a lot of dialogue. The pages just flew by without my realizing I was turning them. It was, in short, an outstanding book club pick … one of our best in a while, now.

Julie called last night and she sounds well, if not a bit worn out. Gary is off to Europe again — this time to Paris for a week (bah!) and then probably on to Switzerland. My “baby” brother turns 21 this week (Sept. 22) — YAY GEORGE!

I’m sorta in a distracted mood tonight. Can you tell? 🙂

I leave Wednesday for Hawaii, by the way. Once I’m there, I know Fred & Dalis will keep me busy, but I will be snapping pictures like the reborn picture freak that John says I am … and will be posting regular updates here to the blog to keep you all apprised of my fun out on the islands. So stay tuned for details! I look forward to returning to travelblog mode soon!
